Not every business conversation needs a meeting room. "Netwalking" swaps the coffee table for a footpath: a group meets, walks a set route for an hour or two, and talks as it goes.

Why it works

Walking side by side takes the pressure off. There's no seating plan and no one standing at the front, and you naturally drift between people as the group spreads out. Many people find it easier to talk properly when they're not facing each other across a table.

What to expect

Most netwalks start from a car park, a café or a landmark, follow a route of a few miles, and finish somewhere for a drink. Wear sensible shoes, check the weather, and bring a waterproof. Some are free; others charge a few pounds to cover a coffee at the end.
